Exhibitsmith
Let’s rethink the way we ”save our stuff.” Lindsey Smith, Exhibitsmith, helps people interpret, preserve, and better understand the objects that make up our world. If you have a lot of stuff, this might feel overwhelming. But believe it or not, Lindsey truly believes that artifact and heirloom preservation can be both easy and fun. She invites you to sit back, relax, and listen to her professional thoughts, personal musings, and the ridiculous stories that she’s encountered while on – and off – the job. Hopefully it’ll all help you feel a little better about how to deal with your own stuff.

Who knew a tent could be so exciting?!
I certainly didn't. But the fourth graders did.
Let’s talk about the power of authenticity. Authenticity is real. True. And when it comes to objects, it might just be what turns something ordinary into something extraordinary. On today’s episode, I’ll be sharing a very creative example of how one museum decided to interpret one of their most special artifacts, to great success.

Do you know what a school librarian does all day? How about a Librarian in charge of *four* school libraries? District Library Media Specialist Jill Sullivan-Bennin joined me on the podcast to talk about the many (many) hats she wears every day at the Sherrard Community School District in Western Illinois.Jill has overseen the library activities for all four buildings in her rural school district since 2014. Jill and her small staff of library aids have developed a robust library program and as the only dedicated, full-time library staff for the entire district, she definitely wears many hats. Working in a small school district, especially one with a large geographical footprint like Sherrard’s, has its own challenges and opportunities, which Jill shares with us.Jill received a Bachelor's Degree in English Education from Augustana College, a masters degree in Reading from Western Illinois University, and a Certificate in School Librarianship/Library Information Specialist from Illinois State University.
She has been associated with the Sherrard Community School District since 2000. From 2000 until 2007 she taught junior high and later, high school English. From 2007-2010 Jill was a District Reading Specialist, before returning to the high school classroom, where she stayed until transitioning to the library in 2014.

I’m curious whether you’ll be able to relate. I hope you enjoy today’s episode and I invite you to share your stories, too.

As we look ahead to the new year, which will, no doubt, be filled to the brim with tabloid images and talking heads, this episode encourages you take a moment to think about life before photos changed the world, and how (for better and worse) it has changed our lives. Photography has meant very different things to us collectively since its debut in 1839. This episode explores the different ways photography has shaped our society over the past (almost) two centuries and encourages you to reflect on those immense changes and how your daily lives.

Exhibitsmith the podcast rethinks how and why we save our stuff. With a background working with museum collections and archives, Lindsey loves to help people interpret, preserve, and better understand, well, stuff. She believes that artifact and heirloom preservation is both easy and fun, so sit back, relax, and listen to professional thoughts, personal musings, and the exciting - and sometimes ridiculous - stories that that she’s encountered while working with all that stuff.

About Exhibitsmith
When Lindsey founded Exhibitsmith in 2009, she wasn't even a Smith yet. Newly engaged, she decided to incorporate her future married name into her business name because it sounded a little punny. In fact, her first tag line was “There are blacksmiths, there are silversmiths, and now there’s an exhibitsmith.”
She thought she was hilarious.
And, unfortunately, she still does.
